Corrupt Police. Reply with quote
I have hands-on experience dealing with the police, few times. I share one here. I was in Islamabad back in 197/98 when this incident happened. I was staying at my cousin’s place that night. It was a four bed rent property, rented out by six people who were working in different governmental and non-governmental departments. As I was in deep sleep upstairs and time was around two in the morning, I woke up with the sound of loud noises and fire arm sound. I rushed downstairs and saw four five people in the living room. They all were shouting at some guy whom they were trying to pin down at the same time. That guy was drunk to his eyes and smelt like hell. He had a revolver in his hand, which he used to fire one built on the floor, and was not leaving it. He was shouting all sort of rubbish including, I will kill all the Afridi people living here. I phoned police and told them the situation. To my surprise police was there in two vehicles and around 8 armed officers. They arrested him and confiscated the weapon. Now the drama starts from here. Police officers didn’t bother to take any statement from any of us nor did they bother to collect the evidence. All they wanted was to take that man away from the crime scene. We told them that we can go to the police station for the FIR but they said it can be done in the morning when SHO arrives in the police station. Next day we received phone call from the police station and we were advised to come to PS and see the SHO. We all went there and as we were escorted to the SHO's office we saw one police officer carrying a breakfast tray entering in the SHO office. We thought it must be for the SHO but we were wrong……………..The tray full of freshly made breakfast was for the same person whom they took/arrested from our place that morning. He was sitting with the SHO and he just had a shower and had ironed clothes on. There was a single bed in one corner of the SHO’s office where he, criminal, had slept that morning. We looked at each other and knew instantly what was going on, as you all probably know by now. The SHO didn’t care about us in the first place but when he came to know where we work, couple of guys were from PTV, his attitude changed dramatically. Not only he offered us seats this time but insisted to have breakfast as well, which we refused. Long story short, we were not given any option other than to forgive him and were given the option of mutual meeting next week to understand better each other. That next week never arrived. To be honest, I don’t have any respect for these gangsters/thieves in uniform.
